Urge President Saúl Jiménez-Sandoval to work with students, alumni, and supporters to reinstate Women’s Lacrosse, Men’s Wrestling and Men’s Tennis.
The pandemic forced Fresno State to make the tough decision to discontinue three varsity athletic programs. Fewer opportunities on campus isn’t ideal but this decision doesn’t need to be permanent.
We are launching this petition to urge Fresno State’s new president to work with students, alumni, and supporters to find a way to reinstate all three varsity teams: Women’s Lacrosse, Men’s Wrestling and Men’s Tennis.
Fresno State is an important part of the Central Valley and its athletics programs provide vital opportunities for high school students to reach a college education.
These teams also represent a commitment the school has made to the region; 57% of athletes on the teams scheduled for elimination are from the San Joaquin Valley. Reinstating the teams reaffirms the strong connection between the community and the area’s top university.
Now that the pandemic is in the rear view mirror and the school is reopening, it’s time to restore all opportunities for Fresno’s current and future students.
